Obituary of Harry Nick Pappas

Harry Nick Pappas, of Greensboro, NC, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 28, 2020, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Harry was born January 8, 1927 in St. Louis, MO, to Nickolas & Vasiliki Pappastergiou (Pappas), Greek immigrants who traveled through Ellis Island in the early 1900s. After graduating high school, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in August 1946 before serving in the Navy Reserves. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with Honors in 1950. Professionally, Harry worked 32 years with Brown Shoe Company, and is a member of the Buster Brown Masters Club and Brown Shoe Co. Hall of Fame. Personally, Harry was an avid golfer and past member of both Starmount and Sedgefield Country Clubs. Upon retirement, he spent 20 years as a starter at Grandover Golf Course until he put away his clubs at the age of 90. Harry’s greatest pride came from his family. He is survived by his son, Darrell Pappas, and wife, Angie, of Greensboro; grandchildren Alex and John; and his special friend Barbara McLeod who brought so much joy to his final days along with their dogs, Rudy and Judy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nancy H. Pappas, his parents, and three siblings. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Amanda and AuthoraCare Hospice of Greensboro; Peter, Mary and the wonderful staff at Carolina Estates and Affordable Family Care Services. At Harry’s request, a service will not be held. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, 604 Meadow St., Greensboro, NC, 27405.
