Obituary of Mark Ashley Nissen
Mark Ashley Nissen of Winston Salem, NC, passed away in his home on August 23rd, 2020 at the age of 63. Mark has now been reunited with his mom, Jessie Inez Tucker Nissen and father, Don Keith Nissen in his heavenly home.
Mark is survived by the love of his life, Karen Vanhoy and his stepson, Dakota Vanhoy. Part of Mark’s family included his very closest and lifelong friends, Johnny Eldridge, Mark Brewer and Jody Mabe.
Mark grew up in Forsyth County, attended High Point University, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After graduation, Mark eventually followed his father’s path and started his own Painting Company. Mark had two successful businesses in Winston Salem and North Myrtle Beach SC.
Mark lived his life the way he wanted to, he loved to travel, was a certified scuba diver, and enjoyed meeting people. He never met a stranger. Mark cared about everyone. For years, he would take his neighbors who did not have transportation to doctor appointments, grocery stores, and errands they needed. As his health diminished, he was not as mobile, but he held onto his dreams, his mind and heart were young and was always fighting the aging process. He loved to share stories and discuss life with Dakota and his friends Anthony Marin and Chandler Lewis.
His family and friends will celebrate his life in a private celebration of life in his home on September 12th. Karen would like for each of you to share a story here about Mark, share those fun memories and Karen wants everyone to know that the love that Mark and her shared is enough to carry her through until they meet again.
