Obituary of Charles Estel Skeen

Charles Estel Skeen passed away peacefully at his home in Winston-Salem, NC with his wife of 64 years at his side on July 20, 2019. 

Born on February 3, 1935, he was the eldest of four children born to Estel Charles Skeen and Tressie Eunice Tolley Skeen of Jackson County, West Virginia.  He is survived by his wife, Pauline Puckett Skeen and their daughter, Kimbra Ann Skeen Coby Hutson of Winston-Salem, NC, sister Charlene Amy Skeen Jordan of Bradenton, Fla, and brother John Elijah Skeen of Smithville, Oklahoma, granddaughter Heather Coby Hilton Hopkins of Belews Creek, NC, and grandson Jacob Edward Coby of Fairview, NC and several great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister Charlotte Ann Skeen Smith of Jackson County, WVa.

A graduate of Ripley High School in Ripley, WV, he then served in the Navy and was Honorably Discharged in 1956 as an Aviation Electronic Technician, 3rd class, which provided him with the foundation of his extensive career as an engineer in the computer industry.  A true pioneer in his field, he earned multiple awards and accolades pertaining to his numerous contributions.  His proficiency included hardware, languages, operating systems and application.

He also enjoyed many hobbies and was highly skilled in many venues such as woodworking, electronics, aircraft, engineering, and gardening.  It was often said there was nothing he could not fix.

He will be missed by many.  But his faith in God led him to a peaceful end of this life, and an acceptance of what will come.

Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2PM, Crews United Methodist Church located at 4150 Reidsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
