Obituary of Jeanette Elaine Benckert

Jeanette Elaine Benckert of Pfafftown, NC passed away Friday, June 21, 2019 unexpectedly. She was born to the late Ira Dean and Myrtie Elaine Ownby on July 11, 1948 in McKenzie Tennessee. She was married to James L. Benckert in 1975 and they enjoyed over forty-three years of marriage. She is survived by her husband James L. Benckert of Pfafftown, NC and three children; James E. Benckert of Winston-Salem, NC; Adam Benckert of Pfafftown, NC; and Carolyn Elaine Price of Advance, NC.

Jeanette loved the outdoors and often went hunting and fishing and enjoyed searching for wild edible mushrooms in the mountains. She once wrote “I’d rather be out hunting or fishing with my dad than home playing with dolls – mostly because I loved the talks we had together and dad taught me how to sing with my heart and not just with words.”

After high school she won a scholarship to college, but withdrew several months later to care for her sick father who was near death. She said “I figured I’d have other opportunities for college but maybe not much time left with my dad and he was more important than school.” She was a good Christian woman with the voice of an angel, who enjoyed singing solos in church, teaching children in Bible classes and being a camp counselor at Bible camp during the summers. She did go on to receive her Associate Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse – a remarkable career she enjoyed for almost thirty years.

Jeanette did not like being the center of attention and per her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Her wishes are to spend eternity among the mountainside of the Shenandoah Valley, and so her ashes will be spread there at a later date. She will be missed dearly.
