I was honored to have known Gene for over 30 years. He could always make me laugh. My husband passed away last year on the 4th of July. I walked into my husbands hospital room one morning n there sat Gene ( they had never met before that day). Both were talking n laughing as if they had known each other for years. That was Gene. About 2 weeks before he passed away he insisted he drive me to my MRI appointment n the next week I took him to his doctor visit. He was still offering in his last days to try n make life a little easier for me. That was the man he was. N yes bacon. I’m so glad they listed bacon more than once. Beer n bacon. He loved them both but mostly bacon. We used to joke about his love for bacon. I guess the good ones go early. I won’t ever understand it, it’s just a fact of life. I guess most would think that 68 isn’t young but by today’s standards it is. I never knew how old he was because he was so young at heart. On the day I took him to the hospital, he had a shirt on that said ‘I’m not dead yet’. That was Gene. Always joking n laughing n making everything a lot better in my life for having the honor of calling him my friend.

Gene was a close friend of mine during our senior year at Reynolds HS. I also worked with him and his dad a time or two thereafter installing carpet in hotels. Later I moved away, and I sincerely regret having fallen out of touch. He was a good guy! Best wishes for happy memories to his family!

Well- I didn't know Gene. Never heard of him but after reading his obit, I wish I had known him. Several key phrases: bacon, Pointer Brand overalls, Al Bundy and a service at the brewery. He sounds like a Man's Man and a guy that every guy would want for a best friend. I'm about Gene's age and I hope I can be as great as he was. I am sorry for the family's loss but obviously you were all really lucky people to have had him in your lives. Rock On Gene!!
