Obituary of Sharon Ann Johnson

Sharon Ann Johnson (Munson), 80, of Kernersville, NC, passed away May 6. Sharon was born August 7, 1938 in Maskell, Nebraska to Esther and Harold Munson. After graduating high school she went to work for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She married Tom Johnson June 9, 1961 in Elk Point, SD. Through the years Sharon and Tom lived in Richardson, TX, Houston, TX, Jamestown, NC, Dallas, TX, Baltimore, MD, and Sioux City, IA. In 2000 they returned to NC and have resided in Kernersville.

Sharon’s greatest love was her family. They were with her until her spirit left to join Jesus. She had many passions. Her Bible was of great comfort to her through the years. She loved to sew. She created many beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren that will be cherished forever. Sharon also loved her crossword puzzles. They could be found throughout the house. She loved cooking in her younger years. As age took its toll, she resorted to instructing those in her kitchen and all the cooking tv shows. Sharon always had a wonderful since of humor and quick wit. Her hearing was sharp as a tack so even if she wasn’t in the room you better have watched what you said. More than likely this was from raising her five children and having her grandchildren around.

Words cannot express how much she was loved and how much she will be missed by her family and friends. Sharon is survived by her husband of 58 years and five children, Dawn Sparks (Brad), Debbie Johnson (Bill), Tom Johnson (Rhonda), Travis Johnson (Leah), and Trudy Voorhees (Matt). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Her brother Jim Munson (Rose), two nephews and a niece. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marilynn Nelsen and her husband Donald, and grandson Christopher Hollis.

There will be a memorial service on May 13th at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church in Kernersville with visitation at 12 pm with the service to follow at 1 pm.
