Obituary of Maynard Reynolds Thompson

Maynard Reynolds Thompson, fell asleep in death on April 2, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on November 25, 1929 to the late Joseph Thompson and Roberta Reynolds Thompson. He attended Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, and retired from US Airways in 1994.

Brother Maynard Thompson has a rich theocratic heritage. His grandfather, Noah Reynolds was one of the first International Bible Students in Winston-Salem. Maynard and his siblings enjoyed attending Bible meetings with their mother, Roberta. He had fond memories of carrying the phonograph in the ministry with his mother. Maynard was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 6, 1943 and was a faithful Witness for over 76 years until his death. He attended the international conventions in New York City in 1950, 1953, and 1958 and other conventions throughout the United States. Also he regularly attended the circuit and district conventions in North Carolina each year. He served as a ministerial servant in the North English Congregation. He participated in the door-to-door ministry each month, sometimes as an auxiliary pioneer. He always attended the meetings at the Kingdom Hall, arriving early.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Rose McMickens Thompson, his sister Louise Thompson Smith and his brothers Benjamin Thompson and Joe Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters Melba Thompson Workman, Mary Alice Thompson Cason, and a sister-in-law Ruth Stewart all of the city; two sons Herman McMickens and Daniel McMickens; grandson Brandon McMickens, and numerous nieces and nephews including William Workman (Alice) of  Hickory, NC, Lenora Cochran (Donald) of Raleigh, NC, Melba Louise Lindsay who was like a daughter to him, and Debbie Cason, James Cason (Ivery), Oliver Thompson (Sarah) all of the city, and his cousin Frances Manning of Augusta, GA. He also leaves to cherish his memory three special friends who were like sons to him, Claude Lindsay (Esperance), Demetrius Jones (Adriane), and James Staley (Deirdre) all of the city.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 20, 2019 at 3:00pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4259 Northampton Drive, Winton-Salem, NC.

Along with his family, Brother Maynard Thompson will be greatly missed by his many spiritual brothers and sisters whom he loved dearly.
