Obituary of Mary Jane Kinney

Mary Jane Kinney better known by those who loved her and those she loved as Ma, Mommy, Grandma, MJ, and Sista. She was born May 28, 1939 in Dillon, SC to Ervin Bethea and Corrie Dupree.

Mary Jane was a remarkably talented woman. She went to school in Latta and Dillon County. While in school she was a cheerleader and majorette. That is how she won Bot’s heart, but they have known each other since grade school. She was known for her cooking, especially her banana pudding, sweet tea, biscuits, gravy, and black eyed peas. She was affectionately known as Grandma to all her daycare babies. She worked hard and never complained…unless she was losing in cards and then she resorted to playing by her own rules!

Mary Jane loved people and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in July 1971. She was faithful to the very end.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brothers Curtis and Ervin Bethea.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 63 years, John (Bot), her children, Diane (Richie), Johnny (Dianna), Linda, Rodney, and Kenya (Rob).  Also surviving are her grandchildren,  Brandon (Ashley),Janae, Brian (Dawn), Brendon, Dijon, and the baby Janelle; her great-grandchildren, Keaton, Jackson, and Ariel; and her sisters Corean, Joyce (Mack), and Geraldine, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Mary Jane AKA “Mur Jan” will be dearly missed by the love of her life she calls Bot and all those who loved her.
