Obituary of Curtis Wayne Lighthart

Curtis Wayne Lighthart, 69, passed away peacefully, Friday March 15, 2019 after a short illness at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin, NC.

 

He was born January 23, 1950 to the late Herbert and Mary Lighthart in Rockford IL. He had 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He met his wife Nancy Blade in 1968 and they were married in 1971. Curt and Nancy had 2 daughters and 1 son and continued to live in IL and worked as a computer programmer and machine operator until 1998 when they moved to TN. There Curtis pursued a career as a long haul truck driver with is wife until 2003 when they moved to NC to enjoy their grandchildren. He continued driving truck until his retirement in NC mountains in 2010.

 

Curtis lived his life hard and strong. He faced and survived more challenges in life then most but this only made him stronger and showed us all how to fight for life and to never take a single day for granted for the next is not promised. He loved his family fiercely and his grandchildren were his world. He was smart and shared his knowledge openly. He was the most amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed but celebrated by all.

 

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Herb and Mary Lighthart, sister Sharon McDaniels and brothers Herbie, Ronnie and Alan Lighthart.

 

Curtis is survived by his loving wife ,of 48 years, Nancy Lighthart, his children Susan & Bill Berner, Michelle & Brad Perry and Curtis & Melody Lighthart, his grandchildren Megan Lighthart, Jacob & Branden Perry, Levi, Taylor & Dalton Lighthart and 1 great grandchild due in September. He is also survived by 4 sisters and spouses. Rita Frank, Brenda & Dale Carlson, Sarah & Keith Johnson and Anita & Bud Garrison and many loved nieces and nephews.

 

No funeral services are planned per Curtis's wishes. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
