Obituary of James Cleveland Thomas, Jr.
James Cleveland Thomas Jr., 74, died August 28, 2021. Due to the Covid pandemic there will not be a public service.
James was born January 1, 1947, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late Julia Wilkins and James C. Thomas. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Helen Thomas and a brother, Ronald Thomas.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and caring wife, Nancy C. Thomas; son, James C. Thomas III (Crystal); daughters, Janet R. Thomas and Stacie Reese (Jabar); grandchildren, Micah B. Hanner (Maddy) and TJ Reese (Christine); sisters, Joan Dubose, Martha Kay Rivers and Sue Cook; sister-in-law, Trina Thomas and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed a long career with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring after over 33 years of service. He had a passion for photography, fishing and riding his bike with friends. He was actively involved at New Story Church for several years. Last attending Rescue House Church until Covid-19 shut down public worship.
James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a very kind, gentle soul and will be missed by many.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Sandra Kranzburg, RN navigator, Dr. Carrie Johnson at the Pain Clinic and her medical assistant Terri Kennedy for their love, support and compassion during James’ illness. Also thanks to the staff at Trellis Supportive Care for the unending dedication and support for James and Nancy.
Also thank you to the wonderful neighbors at Ashton Place Circle and our circle of friends for every prayer prayed, food, cards, phone calls and text messages. Thanks to all of our family and friends that supported us through this difficult journey.
Special thanks for Johnnie and Sharon Dowell for their love, support and friendship for the last 20 years. And a thank you to Betty Rathbone and Scott for taking us under their wing so lovingly.
