Carol, Ginny and Andrew,
Janet and I were so saddened to learn of Gary's passing. He was in all respects a wonderful person who loved his wife and family, loved the Lord, and was a model citizen, lawyer, and Christian. He will be sorely missed.
I knew Gary before I met him. I got a letter one day in August, 1971, from Gary. He was writing to me as a recent graduate of Wake Law School, and he somehow found out I was, as a UVA graduate, too, coming to Wake Law School. I still remember to this day his kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to me. It was so much like Gary, and a sign of his kindness to me and to so many others.
He was so lucky to have you, Carol, as a life partner. So much of his success as a practicing lawyer was having you in the office, with your equally friendly, kind, ways. You were a team in life and work, and what is much better than that?
Janet and I VERY MUCH REGRET we cannot be with you tomorrow at the service. Our kids and grandkids are in town as we head to the beach on Sunday. But please know that Janet and I hold all of you and Gary's life close to our hearts. We wish you God's grace in this time of challenge. But buoyed by the fact that you know he is in Heaven.
God speed.
Mike and Janet Wells

Mrs Tash and family. I knew Gary fir just a couple of years, when I attended Elon College and he was serving the Alpha Nu chapter of Sigma Pi at Wake Forest. Several of us at Elon desired to establish a chapter of Sigma Pi at Elon. Gary & the brothers of Alpha Nu (due to Gary's direction), spent many hours with us, both at Wake and at Elon, assisting us in these efforts. Due in no small part to Gary's involvement and interest in our efforts, we established a Sigma Pi colony at Elon in 1976, and the Epsilon Theta chapter of Sigma Pi in 1977. Our goal was to move from a colony to a chapter in record time, so the small core of us who started our effort, could see us charter before we graduated. We accomplished this just 3-weeks before we graduated. I was always so grateful yo Gary for the time that he spent with us, helping us to achieve our goal. My prayers are with you, your children and grandchildren...and the rest of your family. God bless!

Gary, Buzzie and I began our friendships at age 11 in Ewing, NJ. He lived behind my family and across the street from Buzzie (Robert Sutcliffe). Early on we stole his Dad's cigarettes as his German Shepard tried (and did more than once) to bite our rear ends! We rode bikes all over, had snowball fights with everyone in the neighborhood, built a fort with a treehouse, and did all those things young buddies were wont to do. Our lives diverted as Viet Nam called Buzzie and me, yet in the background we kept up on our life achievements. My most sincere condolences for his wife Carol and the family; yet, as they mourn, they are surely buttressed by the many, many individuals who experienced Gary's sincere and compassionate efforts during his life in Winston as one of the city's upstanding individuals.

My husband Doug and I knew Gary and Carol when the "men" were in law school and we shared many happy events such as Mike Champlain's wedding. Gary was a staunch UVA fan, but he did give more than tepid support to Wake. Gary was a man who GAVE, and the world was better for him.

I first met Judge Tash when he visited our fraternity chapter as an alumni. Later, when he was our fraternity national leader, we went to the national meeting to ask for a loan for a new kitchen for our chapter. He guided our group of misfits towards getting the loan. He even wrote a letter of recommendation for me to use for law school applications. He was truly a great man who cared for others.

Judge Tash was absolutely one of my favorite judges in the Juvenile Court system and I always found him to be just as he is described, compassionate and wise. Sending deeply heartfelt condolences to the family, and thanking God that He made the way for perfect peace, spirit, mind and body, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, until we see one another again...in that Day!
Blessings of comfort to each of you.
