Obituary of George (Trey) Hicks

George (Trey) Hicks III, 51, died Friday, October 5, 2018, after a valiant battle with an aggressive form of Sarcoma Cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Winston-Salem, NC where he was surrounded by loved ones. He is the son of George and Georgia Hicks of Charlotte, NC. Trey grew up in Charlotte, NC where he attended South Mecklenburg High School and then graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, NC. He was active in scouting from Cub Scouts to accomplishing the Eagle Scout award in 1985. Some of Trey's fondest memories were of his summers working at Scout Camp Grimes. Trey was a graduate of Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC, obtaining a degree in Business Administration. His passion for cars turned into a career, enjoying years in the auto parts retail sales industry. Most recently he was the Store Manager of Auto Zone, Kernersville location. In addition to his parents, Trey is survived by his son William Taylor Hicks (Kenia) and his sister Elizabeth Hicks Plyler (Reid), niece Madeline Plyler also Jany Johnson, her sons, Mike, Matt (Amber), Morgan (Mary) and her grandchildren Mason and Arianna. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cancer Services, 1175 Maplewood Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Mount Tabor Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
