Obituary of Susan McMath Oakes
Susan McMath Oakes died at her residence May 13, 2021. Per her wishes, no services will be held.
Susie was born November 13, 1950 in Greensboro, NC to the late Leola and Carl McMath. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her best friend and the love of her life, her husband, Jerry Oakes.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Jere Kannegieter and husband Dustin; beloved grandbabies, Brianna, Taylor, Olivia, Katrina, and Dylan; sister, Sandra Gebauer; brothers, Martin McMath and wife, Dottie and Robert McMath and wife, Catherine. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Susie loved everything purple, from her hair down to her shoes. If it came in purple that is what she would buy. An avid reader, she could never get enough of books. She loved dragons and would frequently paint or print them on her shirts, collect dragon knickknacks, and she even had a purple Christmas tree with small dragons hanging all over it. Susie has always had a love for horses, often painting them or drawing them. She was a genealogy buff and wrote a family genealogy book many years ago. She was always tracing new family links. The same as many people born back then, she was always a huge fan of Elvis. Last but not least, she was crazy about Ronnie McDowell.
*Life is short; when in doubt dye your hair purple or buy those purple shoes just because it’s your favorite color and it makes you happy.*
