Obituary of George Sudermann

Sudermann, George Jr. July 21, 1930 – December 4, 2020 George passed away December 4, 2020. He was born to George and Amelia Sudermann in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in New York, Kansas and Iowa. He graduated from Fairfield High School then attended Parsons College, graduating from Wichita State University with a BS degree in Business Admin. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Ft. Belvoir, Va. and Airborne Training at Ft. Bragg, NC. He became the company commander of an Airborne Engineer Company, instructor at the Engineer School and Assistant Group Engineer of a Construction Group at Ft. Bragg, NC. George owned and operated construction companies, both commercial and residential in Denver, Colorado Springs and Tucson. He also was the general manager for an international construction company. He finished his career as a custom home builder at Sudermann Construction and in 1993 was named Custom Builder of the Year. George’s love of construction was evident in his passion for building and flying radio-controlled model aircraft built from scratch. His love of flying was off the ground as well as a commercial pilot. His creation of art through wood is beyond description. George often compared wood turning to the way a potter begins to throw a pot on a wheel with a ball of clay. He started with a block of wood and often donated many of his creations to benefit Forsyth County Senior Services, Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society and Serge Global Inc. (a mission sending agency). The outdoors was his home. He led many hikes in the Rocky Mountains as a Scoutmaster for almost two decades. His fishing expeditions to Flaming Gorge, Wyoming and other waters were famous, with his loving wife, Lynda and their beloved Labrador, Magic. Often you would find George sitting in his favorite chair watching Wheat Shockers’ basketball and Denver Broncos’ football. He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Emelia S. Sudermann, sisters, Emily Maffuccio and Margaret Myers; brothers, Carl Sudermann, Frederick Sudermann, twin brother Richard Sudermann, William Sudermann and his loving wife of 30 years, Lynda E. Sudermann. He is survived by his children, George Efton Sudermann, Steven (Nancy) Sudermann, Mark Douglas Sudermann, Scott (Tracie) Sudermann, Jeff Sudermann, and stepdaughter Deborah Harrell; sister, Dorothy Rosenboom and brother Jim Sudermann. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, George Wade Sudermann, Roan Efton Sudermann, Amanda Sudermann Graggero, Stephanie Sudermann, Christopher (Andrea) Sudermann, Kimberly (Nathan) Strecker, Jessica Sudermann, Joshua Sudermann, Alyssa Sudermann, Nicholas Sudermann, and Joseph Sudermann.
