Obituary of Jackie Cutrell
Ruth Jacalyn Cone Cutrell (JACKIE) was born on May 5, 1939 in Midway, FL to Ruth and Randolph Cone. She died on June 24, 2020 in Winston-Salem, NC due to complications from a stroke.
Jackie was a very smart and creative child and learned to sew at age 5. Sewing was something she enjoyed all through her life, even making her daughters’ prom and wedding dresses.
Jackie was very athletic, participating in many school sports and even enjoyed performing in the Red Stocking Review for the Jaycees as a young mom.
Rare illness took over her husband when she was just 28 years old and from that time she raised her two daughters on her own. In spite of much hardship, Jackie worked extremely hard to set a good example and instilled in her girls an incredible sense of work ethic. She went back to college at age 50 and though health problems prevented her from graduating, she maintained straight As in all her classes.
Jackie painted, drew, wrote poems and stories and enjoyed crafts, baking and gardening. Her two daughters were her pride and joy and she was so thankful for their wonderful husbands and her grandchildren. She was thrilled to be a great grandmother these last two years.
Though COVID paints a grim picture for most, it actually allowed Jackie to spend her last months at one of her daughter’s homes. Here, she loved being outside, enjoying the birds, squirrels, flowers and all the pets. Facetiming everyday with family was surely a bonus.
Never was there a stronger woman. Frail that she was, Jackie kept on going for so long in spite of so many obstacles. She was feisty, hard-headed, funny and an inspiration to many.
We know Jackie is gardening, dancing, writing, cooking and eating treats somewhere wonderful where the physical and mental constraints no longer bind her.
Jackie is survived by her daughters Cheri Van Loon (Paul), Lisa Hart (Mitch); grandchildren Scarlet Stoker (Andrew), Spencer Hart, Andrew Hart; great grandson Henry Stoker; siblings Dolph Cone and Jean Lucas and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in late Spring 2021 when travel will hopefully be safer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to plant in the memorial garden for her. Toast Jackie with a cup of coffee, a diet coke or your favorite milkshake. Or just do something nice for someone, especially your mom, every day.
To quote one of Jackie's favorite books, "What a caterpillar calls the end of the world the master calls a butterfly."
