Obituary of Joseph Edward Nelson

After a long battle with cancer, Joseph (Joe) Edward Nelson of Clemmons, NC passed away
peacefully in his home on October 19, 2019.


Joe was born November 2, 1950 in Smithers, WV, son of the late Charles Otis Nelson, Sr. and
Willie Belle Nelson. He was a loving husband, an adoring father and grandfather, a devoted
brother and uncle, and a loyal friend. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his home
and was always ready to fire up the grill.


Joe attended West Virginia State College University majoring in accounting and was a member
of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and ROTC. Upon graduation in May of 1973, he was
commissioned second lieutenant in the United States Army. After being stationed at Ft.
Benning, GA, he joined the Ohio National Guard as a first lieutenant and completed his service
obligation as a captain. He worked in the finance industry for over 20 years with various
companies before branching out to run his own manufacturing facilities, Team Emergent, LLC
and Tarheel Plastics, LLC.


He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arnold David Nelson. He is survived by
his loving wife, Carmen Nelson of 46 years, his daughter, Joneida Nelson-Generette and
husband Robert Generette III, his son, Marques Nelson and wife JoLynn Nelson, his sister,
Patricia Nelson, his brothers Charles Nelson and wife Louise Nelson, Robert Nelson and wife
Alice “Missy” Nelson, his four grandchildren; Bobby, Alexa, Max and Gabby, and a host of
cousins, nieces and nephews.


A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church, Harlem Heights,
416 Broadway Ave, Oak Hill WV, 25901 on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 12 pm. In lieu of
flowers, please consider donating to Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem, The American
Cancer Society, or your local hospice.
